When it comes to naming the best city to work in in the UK, many a Brit would probably say London. But as it turns out, that may not be entirely true, at least not according to a new ranking by Glassdoor.

Instead, leafy Cambridge – world famous for its top-notch university – takes top spot, followed by the south English town of Milton Keynes and, in third place, Nottingham.
London’s average salary sits at £34,637 (€41,513.27, $45,985.85), according to job website Monster, which places it above the UK average of £27,016 (€32,372, $35,864.16); but while the pay is good, satisfaction amongst the capital’s employees is low.

As a result, it doesn’t make the ranking’s top 10, losing out against Peterborough, Coventry and the popular commuter town of Reading, just outside Greater London.
Indeed, London even fails to make the top 20, while cities like Aberdeen and Birmingham – which are not traditionally seen as popular cities, or even places with a high quality of life – make the cut.

The capital’s skyrocketing house prices also play a considerable part in London falling out of the ranking, according to Glassdoor.

The average house price across Britain sits at £209,054 (€250,413.48, $277,366.67), London’s average is just about triple that, at £600,625 (€719,335.89, $796,891.51).
And while some of the highly ranking cities, like Cambridge and Reading, boast fairly high house prices themselves, they’re still far from the capital’s
