The L Word is returning for another season

A new season of The L Word is in the works.

The groundbreaking show, which followed the lives and loves of a group of Los Angeles lesbians, ran for six seasons from 2004 and 2009.

In its wake, it left a dedicated fanbase and a multitude of broken taboos.

But despair no longer.

The L Word will be back on Showtime for at least one more season, with co-creator Ilene Chaiken back on board as an executive producer for the new edition of the series.http://www.pinknews.co.uk/wp-admin/admin.php?page=polls&iframe&TB_iframe=trueSources have told Entertainment Weekly that the show’s stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moenig and Leisha Hailey will be back on the show – and will also be executive producers.

The hints were there when Chaiken spoke to EW in May.

She said: “When we went off the air in 2009, I think a lot of people thought: ‘Okay, the baton is passed now, and there will be lots of shows that portray lesbian life.’

“There’s really nothing. It feels like maybe it should come back.”

The initial fervour over a possible return was sparked when Chaiken tweeted, apparently out of the blue: “So excited! Can’t wait…!”

Chaiken, who is now an executive producer for hit Fox show Empire, included the Twitter handles of pretty much every one of the cast members in that post.

The prospect of seeing some of the best, most fleshed-out characters – let alone lesbian characters – interact again is almost too much excitement to bear.

And, of course, it could finally solve the mystery around Jenny’s murder.

As if that wasn’t enough, Chaiken – – was then joined in her Twitter conversation by some of the cast.

Kate Moennig, who played the inimitable, irreplaceable Shane McCutcheon, replied to the post.

“Can’t wait to be with my gals again!!” she said, driving the fandom into an ever-growing spiral of excitement.

At the time, she poured cold water on the fandom fire that threatened to engulf everyone by tweeting: “As far as I know, it’s not a reboot.”

This didn’t really do much to dampen the excitement.

And that excitement has finally been rewarded.
