The Best Themes, Plugins & Extensions for any WordPress project
A couple of months ago I’ve been searching for some premium WordPress plugins for my new website. My current project is, as you can see, non profit so buying expensive plugins or themes made no sense atm. Luckily I landed on effectio.org website. The amount of plugins that I found there was amazing! The prices – even better. Their support – astonishing!!!
To thank them for all their effort, I’ve decided to dedicate them this post. Also if some of you (my dear visitors) needs any kind of premium WordPress plugins or themes, I would strongly recommend you to visit their website and convince yourself of what I’m talking about!
Q: How are they able to offer premium WordPress plugins at such a discount?
A: WordPress is an open source platform, licensed under the terms of the General Public License (GPL), which grants users certain rights regarding modification, use and distribution of source code (see,http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html).
Plugins and Themes are considered by the copyright holders and community as derivitive works of WordPress itself (see http://wordpress.org/about/license/). So all of the plugins and themes offered on effectio.org are GPL by virtue of being derivative works of WordPress itself, and also because their codebases incorporate GPL components, frameworks, etc. Additionally, every plugin author references and acknowledges that their software is licensed under the GPL within their terms and conditions. EffectIO‘s offer is well within the bounds of the GPL license which allows anyone to sell copies of a GPL program for money (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#DoesTheGPLAllowMoney).
Having a multisite extension as expensive as USD 299 with a 50% renewal is a killer. A typical WooCommerce store would need about 30 to 40 extensions, costing up to USD 3K and $1.5K for yearly renewals. Theyoffer all that with a 17.99 montly membership license, like one coffee a day for a week. Or a pair of socks. In fact, it’s close to 90% cheaper than the usual licenses for a website first 2 years of life.
The problem with Woothemes and many others that followed are outrageous prices. In fact, many of the WooCommerce tickets people submit were on bugs in WooCommerce or the extensions themselves.
Current pricing models are fundamentally broken. At present the majority of customers subsidise the few who require support, the recent changes though the cost of standard WP eCommerce functionality rocketed to $1000’s, and without yearly renewal costs! It’s opportunistic pricing at it’s worst.
They’re providing a much needed service in the premium space, where web developers, designers, agencies and small business owners want to increase the functionality of their websites without paying the massive premiums.
All products on their site explicitly state that they are purchasing the product from EffectIO and not the author/vendor. They clearly state that if support is needed from the author, then to consider purchasing from them (They even include a link to their site to make it easy). They never make any claims to be the original authors.
Their members gain access to automatic updates that helps them with managing and keeping safe multiple wordpress blogs, out-of-the-box. Customizations are not supported but no author offers this service as part of their support.
My name is Dario, I’m 44 years young and I live in Croatia (at the moment). I’m not a writer, so please don’t expect any kind of up level stories or posts from me! 😉 I’m just trying to do my best to put a smile on everyone’s face whenever it’s possible.
