A straight traveler got more than he bargained for when his TripAdvisor review was spotted by an eagle-eyed Twitter user today.

Holidaying with his girlfriend, he’d obviously missed the memo that Gran Canaria is probably the gayest island in the world.

In his review, he said he was ‘quite shocked by the amount of gay couples’ at the Hotel Neptuno.

‘I’m not homophobic, however there was a definite feeling of them and us,’ he said.

‘And the gay couple[s] outnumbered the straight couples by two to one at least,’ he added.

Twitter user Lee Jones was quick to post a screen grab of the review to his page.

The adults-only hotel is found in the Playa del Inglés area of the island.

TripAdvisor told Gay Star News in a statement: ‘We do not allow reviews that promote intolerance for individuals or groups of people based on their sexual preference.

‘Where there is a concern that a review does not meet our guidelines, we encourage both business owners and our wider community to report their concerns to us and our content specialists will then investigate.

‘That is what happened in this case and as a result, we have removed the review.’
