Gay footballer outed in high school accepted by frat brothers

An out gay college American football player has spoken openly and frankly about being outed in high school.

Brenden Moon says he was outed at Valley High School in West Des Moines.

But he said, despite confiding in a teammate and everyone finding out he was gay, he has had a fresh start as a brother at a fraternity, Alpha Tau Omega.

He says he has found acceptance and is pleased to speak openly about his sexual orientation.

He tells the Simpsonian: “It’s fun to be gay… I think it is, mostly because I am happy with who I am.”

Adding to Outsports: “My story has had a very positive response in the community here at Simpson.

“I have received a lot of positive attention from peers and just recently got an email from a professor telling me how my story is such a great one.”

He specifically thanks his frat brothers for accepting him in, after the trauma of being outed in high school

The footballer has suffered injuries since starting his college football career at Simpson College.

Playing in an NCAA Division III programme in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, he has suffered two concussions.

This has stopped him from playing full-time, but he is staying positive and says he has received nothing but positive comments since his story published last weekend.

A 95-year-old man last month came as gay on a YouTube video, and gives some heartwarming advice about dating.

Roman appears in the video alongside gay YouTuber DaveyWavey, and talks about coming out after being married to his wife for 67 years.

Shawn Barber, 22, is a Canadian track and field athlete and currently reigning world champion in pole vault.

He came out as gay last week.

The Walking Dead actor Daniel Newman earlier this year came out as gay, saying it was “just time.”
