The cottage cheese and flaxseed oil diet is purported to be an alternative treatment for cancer and other chronic disease. A mix of these two ingredients is one component of a protocol involving additional types of alternative therapy, and generally avoiding conventional treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation, explains Cancer Tutor. Consult with your health care provider before beginning alternative therapy for any serious illness.
Flaxseed and flaxseed oil have been viewed as alternative cancer treatments since the 1950s, according to the American Cancer Society, or ACS. German biochemist Johanna Budwig created a treatment protocol including a strict diet that prohibited sugar, salad oil, margarine and meat and animal fats. Budwig’s patients ate meals based in fruit, vegetables and high-fiber foods, along with flaxseed oil mixed with cottage cheese and milk. Budwig used her protocol to treat cancer and chronic disorders such as psoriasis and eczema, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, heart disease and others, as noted by Cancer Tutor.
Theory of the Problem
Budwig said that the blood of cancer patients was deficient in some essential components, including phosphatides and lipoproteins. This affects the proper balance between the electrically negative cell membranes and the electrically positive nutrients, causing stagnated healthy cell growth. A balance could be restored through diet over three months, resulting in better health, explains Cancer Cure Foundation.
Theory of the Solution
Eating a specific mix of cottage cheese and flaxseed oil is said to help resolve stagnated healthy cell growth and cause tumors to dissolve, explains Cancer Tutor. This is due to the essential electron-rich unsaturated fats in flaxseed oil and the sulfur protein of cottage cheese. The chemical reaction between these two makes the oil soluble in water, so it can permeate cell membranes and produce healing effects.
To make the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil combination, buy only high-quality refrigerated oil, and not high-lignan flaxseed oil. Blend 2 or 4 tbsp. of cottage cheese to 1 or 2 tbsp. of oil, making it fresh each time. Thoroughly mix the two with an immersion blender at a low speed until no standing oil is left. To boost the beneficial effects, sprinkle 1 or 2 tbsp. of freshly ground flax seed on the mixture and blend it with a spoon. Adding 2 to 3 tbsp. of organic low-fat milk after the cottage cheese and oil are mixed also is acceptable. Cancer Tutor recommends starting slowly at one dosage per day and then gradually increasing it, depending on the severity of the health disorder.
The ACS does not address the Budwig protocol, but notes that some animal research supports the use of flaxseed to inhibit the growth or spread of cancer. In addition, the ACS says flaxseed supplements combined with a diet low in fat may be helpful for men with early-stage prostate cancer. More research is necessary to confirm benefits of flaxseed for people with any serious illness.
